Radioactive Materials Licensing and Program Start-Up
All States require that any qualified individual or facility wishing to possess, use and/or store radioactive materials must first apply for and be granted a radioactive materials license. Once the license has been issued to an Authorized User or an organization, ongoing physics support is recommended to ensure that the conditions of the RAM license are being met. The licensee should allow approximately 10 weeks for a new license to be assembled, submitted, and processed. We can assist with all aspects of your nuclear medicine or nuclear cardiology programs.
The application process begins once our questionnaire has been completed and returned to us. We work with our clients during the application and program start-up process ensuring that regulatory requirements are being met every step of the way.
We strive to make the nuclear medicine or nuclear cardiology license application process a streamlined and effortless one for our clients. We will provide support throughout the license application or renewal process and beyond.
Once the license has been issued, the following components of a radioactive materials program should be considered. This would include:
- Nuclear Department Design and Layout
- Gamma Camera Selection/Purchase/Installation
- Hot Lab Equipment Purchase & Installation
- Flood Source Selection & Purchase
- Personnel Monitoring (Film Badges) Program Set-Up/Training/Implementation
- Policy & Procedure Manual Development & Implementation
- Periodic Medical Physics Reviews & Required Equipment Testing
- Consideration of Accreditation Program
